Privacy Policy
Effective October 30, 2026
Glazing Exchange ("we", "us") runs glazingexchange.com, a marketplace where glazing contractors buy and sell surplus glazing materials. This policy explains what we collect, why, who we share it with, and the choices you have. Questions go to layne@glazingexchange.com.
What we collect
What you give us
- Your account: email address and password (the password is handled by our sign-in provider and never stored in readable form), plus your name, company and phone number if you add them.
- Listings: descriptions, photos, spec documents, price, quantity, and the city and state where the material is.
- Orders: what you bought or sold, the amounts, and a delivery address for shipped orders. Card details go straight to Stripe, our payment processor; they never touch our servers.
- Seller payouts: Stripe collects the identity and bank details it needs to pay sellers. We receive only your Stripe account ID and whether payouts are switched on.
- Messages, offers and reviews you send to other users, saved searches and alert settings, your newsletter sign-up, and anything you email us.
What we collect automatically
- We run our own analytics; no third-party ad trackers are involved. Your browser keeps a random ID and a per-visit session ID. With them we record the pages you view, the site or campaign that sent you, your device and browser type, and your approximate location (country, region and city), which our host works out from your IP address.
- We don't store your IP address with this. It's used briefly to block abuse, such as too many requests at once.
What we get from other sources
- To tell glazing businesses about Glazing Exchange, we collect business contact details: name, job title, work email, company, city and business phone. They come from public sources such as state contractor license registers and company websites, and from Hunter.io, a business-contact provider. We also read the public parts of a company's website to understand what it does.
How we use it
- To run the marketplace: accounts, listings, search, checkout, seller payouts, pickup codes and delivery.
- To email you about your orders, inquiries and offers; the alerts you set up; our newsletter, if you subscribed; and replies to your messages.
- To keep the site safe and prevent fraud and abuse.
- To understand how the site is used, so we can improve it.
- To email glazing businesses about Glazing Exchange (see "Your choices" to stop these).
- To keep the records the law requires, such as payment records for tax purposes.
What other users see
- Listings are public: their photos, documents, price, and city and state. Alongside them we show the seller's rating, number of sales and how long they've been a member, but not the seller's name.
- Reviews are public and show the rating, comment and date. The reviewer appears only as "Verified buyer".
- When an order is placed, the buyer and seller each receive the other's name and email address to arrange the handoff. For shipped orders, the seller also receives the delivery address.
Who we share it with
We share information only with service providers that run parts of Glazing Exchange for us, and only what each one needs:
- Stripe: payments, seller payouts and the identity checks for them.
- Supabase: our database, sign-in and file storage.
- Vercel: website hosting.
- Google Workspace: our email.
- Resend: newsletter delivery.
- Upstash: abuse protection.
- Hunter.io: finding and checking business email addresses for our outreach.
- Anthropic: AI that helps us draft our outreach emails and social posts, and summarize public information about companies.
- LinkedIn: publishing our own posts (see below).
We also disclose information when the law requires it, to protect our users or our rights, or as part of a sale or merger of the business. We don't sell personal information, and we don't share it for targeted advertising.
Our team uses LinkedIn's official API to publish posts and comments from our own LinkedIn accounts. Only our staff can connect a LinkedIn account. When one is connected, we store:
- that member's LinkedIn ID and name;
- an encrypted access token, used only to publish what that person approves.
We don't read, collect or store other LinkedIn members' profiles, posts or connections. Disconnecting deletes the token.
Cookies and browser storage
- Sign-in cookies keep you logged in. They're needed for the site to work.
- Your browser's local storage holds the analytics IDs described above and any listing you've started but not finished.
- We use no advertising cookies. Stripe's checkout pages set their own cookies, under Stripe's privacy policy.
Your choices
- Email: every newsletter and alert email has an unsubscribe link, and you can turn alerts off in your dashboard.
- Our outreach emails: reply "no" or use the unsubscribe link, and we won't email you again. We keep your address on a do-not-contact list so it stays that way.
- Your information: email layne@glazingexchange.com to see what we hold about you, or to correct or delete it. We'll answer within 30 days. We keep some records even after deleting an account, such as completed orders for tax and accounting, and Stripe keeps its own records under its policy.
- California residents have the right to know, correct and delete their personal information, and we won't treat you differently for using those rights. We don't sell or share personal information, so there's nothing to opt out of.
How long we keep it
We keep account information while your account is open. We keep order and payment records as long as tax and accounting rules require. Everything else we keep only as long as it serves the purposes above.
Security
Everything you send us is encrypted in transit. Card details are handled only by Stripe, and access to our database is restricted to the systems and people who need it. No system is perfectly secure, so if you think your account has been misused, tell us at layne@glazingexchange.com.
Children
Glazing Exchange is for businesses and is not meant for anyone under 18. We don't knowingly collect information from children.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update it here and change the date at the top. For significant changes, we'll also tell account holders by email or on the site.
