- Impact-rated glazing is approved as a specific makeup in a specific system; ask for the NOA or product approval number
- Spandrel color is matched to a project palette — get a sample against your own vision glass before buying quantity
- Frit is applied to one surface and is directional; confirm which face is coated and which way it faces out
- Switchable glass needs its matching controller, power supply, and wiring pigtails — verify what's actually included
- Check date codes on switchable and laminated products; interlayers and electronics both have shelf considerations
Common questions
Can I use fire-rated glass from another project in my frames?
Only if the glass and frame combination matches a listed, tested assembly. Fire ratings are certified for the complete assembly — glass, framing, gaskets, and glazing method together. Reusing a rated lite in a different frame generally voids the listing, and an inspector can reject it.
Why is spandrel glass so often available as overstock?
Spandrel is made to a project-specific color and there's no secondary demand for that exact shade, so overruns and change orders leave it stranded. That makes it cheap, but it also means you should only buy it if the color works for your elevation or the area is genuinely concealed.
